In 1990, Guinness Brewing Worldwide (now Diageo) and Mel McNally, CEO of the Irish Pub Company were of the same mind that Irish Pubs were of historical value and presented a Great Global Business Opportunity. Mel founded the Irish Pub Company – which to this day remains the leading design build and fit out company for Irish Pubs in Ireland and around the world.
One of the Irish Pub Styles the Irish Pub Company created is the Brewery Style Pub.
Original Brewery Style pubs are reminiscent of St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin, home of the world’s most famous stout, Guinness. The brewery pub interior resembles the 18th century brewery courtyard with much use of stone and brick walls, cobbled stone-effect floor and vaulted ceiling.
Typical brewery decoration with brewing vessels and memorabilia, and illustrations of the process and history of brewing Guinness in Dublin is the essence of this style of pubs and runs throughout. Cooper keeves and brewing vessels add drama and character to a pub.
Nowadays, a new generation of brew style pub is emerging alongside the emergence of craft beers worldwide. Micro brewing on site is becoming a popular attraction for many publicans, offering customers an exciting experience on site. The traditional pub experience is complemented by the modern technology of micro brewing vessels on site.
